By Samipan Bandyopadhyay, developer of Fitto AI
Fitto AI is on Google Play. If you have been waiting on an Android phone, here is the listing. It needs Android 7.0 or later and is free to download.
The same app, not a cut-down port
Fitto is built once and compiled for both platforms, so Android starts on the current release, 1.1.5, with everything in it:
- Photo, voice, typed and barcode logging. Photograph a plate, say what you ate, type it, or scan a barcode. Barcode scans are free.
- Coach, the AI nutritionist that reads your food log, builds meal plans and turns them into grocery lists. How the coach works.
- Lighter versions of a meal you scanned, and favourite meals you can re-log without spending a credit. How lighter versions are chosen.
- Streaks that count logging, not eating less, with streak freezes, XP, badges and leaderboards.
- Meal reminders that move to the times you actually eat.
- “Not right?” corrections when a photo is misread.
The full list is in what’s new in 1.1.5 and on the features page.
Your account works on both phones
Your meals, streak, XP and credits are stored with your Fitto account, not on the phone. Sign in on Android with the same email or Google account you use on iPhone and everything is where you left it, including credits you bought through the App Store.
The one exception is Sign in with Apple, which is only available on iPhone. If that is how you signed up, that account can’t be opened on Android. If you are switching phones for good, get in touch before you do.
Credits on Google Play
There is no subscription on Android either. The same three packs (50, 150 and 500 credits) are sold through Google Play, credits never expire, and a failed analysis gives its credit back. Google Play sets prices in your local currency, so they can differ slightly from the App Store prices on the pricing page. Refunds for a Google Play purchase go through Google Play.
What took a while
The code was the easy part. The same app already compiled for Android in September, when this post laid out what was left. Google requires a new developer account to run a closed test with real testers for two weeks before it allows a public release, and credit purchases on Android run through Google’s billing rather than Apple’s, so they had to be wired up and checked separately. Both are done, and thank you to everyone who tested the early build.
Tell us how it runs on your phone
Android phones vary far more than iPhones do. If something looks wrong on yours (a screen that doesn’t fit, a scan that hangs, a reminder that never arrives), send it over with your phone model and Android version.
